Ahmaud Arbery was murdered Feburary 23 by Greg and Travis McMichael. The father and son saw Ahmaud jogging in their neighborhood and began their armed pursuit.
Greg McMichael had told police that they suspected that Arbery was a burglar, obviously because he was a black man. Three men have finally been indicted on murder charges for the killing of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia.
No action was taken by the police until May 7th. It took the cellphone video of William “Roddie” Bryan to produce a national outcry. Public pressure eventually forced the hand of the Georgian justice system to take action. It was then when the McMichaels were finally arrested. Bryan was arrested on May 22nd as he tried to confine and detain” Arbery without legal authority. He also attacked Arbery with his vehicle before the McMichaels murdered Auhmaud.
Ahmaud Arbery has also been a symbol for the global 2020 protests that sparked after the Minneapolis police murdered George Floyd.
“This is another positive step, another great step for finding justice for Ahmaud, for finding justice for this family and the community beyond,” Prosecutor Joyette Holmes stated.
