Week 1 Day 2 | LCS Summer Split (2020)

With no MSI, it has been awhile since we have seen competitive League of Legends. Finally LCS is back. Even though there were not as many roster swaps as originally thought, the trades that were made were certainly newsworthy. Here are some thoughts on the several story lines surrounding the first week of LCS Summer Split.

Doublelift and TSM

The most noteworthy trade of the off-season had AD carry Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng returning to Team Solo Mid from Team Liquid. Normally most things Yiliang does lands on the front page of the league of legends subreddit. However, this situation was certainly unique. Not only was he leaving a team he won 4 LCS championships with. But this move was on the back of a controversial streaming session that featured Doublelift girlfriend and TSM president Leena Xu. Leena was overheard stating that it was not her fault “no one wants to pick up” Dardoch. Several prominent figures in the community highlighted the unprofessional nature of the situation. Fortunately, Dardoch was able to find a squad in Team Dignitas. Team Liquid, was then in need of a new AD carry. Liquid promoted Tactical to the main roster. He had performed extremely well when he replaced Doublelift temporarily during the regular season.

The breakup match up between Doublelift and his old team was featured on Day 2. The TSM bot lane did not have a great game with Doublelift finishing the game with a 1/3/1 scoreline. Team Liquid took the game at approximately the 25 minute mark.

Team Liquid and Tactical

Edward “Tactical” Ra had a fantastic start to the summer season, helping his team start the season 2-0. Tactical replaced Doublelift after his surprising exit from Liquid. However, consistency is the metric in which new players are measured. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if Tactical can maintain these stellar performances throughout the rest of the season. The question that arises is whether or not Doubelift was truly the problem after all.

Dardoch, Damonte and Dignitas

Dignitas signed former TSM Johsua “Dardoch” Hartnett replacing Jonathan “Grig” Armao. Despite the probable reputation damage (both self inflicted by past actions, and more recently by the TSM president) his skill was still valued by the Dignitas organization. Dardoch however did not start an Akaadian represented Dig against Golden Guardians.

Former Dignitas midlaner current Golden Guardian midlaner Tanner “Damonte” Damonte was also looking for retribution this weekend. Fortunately for Damonte, the GG midlaner had a solid performance finishing 6/2/5. Golden Guardians won the game 15 to 7 flashing the DIG emotes for the win. Even though Golden Guardian looked like a better fit for the roster, it was unfortunate to see Grayson Gregory “GoldenGlue” Gilmer get benched after one split.

Immortals Versus FlyQuest

Jake Kevin “Xmithie” Puchero was no longer on the Immortals starting lineup. Replacement jungler Nicholas James Joseph “Potluck” Pollock ended the game against Flyquest with a KDA of 1/3/4. Jason “WildTurtle” Tran, AD carry for Flyquest great game finishing with a KDA of 5/0/4 and fellow support Ignar finishing the game with a 0/1/12 scoreline.
