The next UFC lightweight title fight has been booked. Dana White announced Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Justin Gaethje for October 24th. First reported by CNN, there were understandable concerns that the fight would not take place so soon after the passing of Khabib’s father.
“It’s been very rough on him,” Dana White explained to CNN Sport’s Don Riddell. “His father was a hero to him, he loved his father, they had a very close relationship and it was very hard on him.” Dana White continued, “It’s going to happen, tell you right here right now. That fight is going to happen.”
Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov (12-0 UFC, 28-0 MMA) has been an unstoppable force since he began his MMA journey. His undefeated record boasts notable wins over Gleison Tibau,Rafael dos Anjos, Michael Johnson, Edson Barboza, Al Iaquinta, Conor McGregor, and Dustin Poirer.
After Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje (5-2 UFC, 22-2 MMA) defeated Tony Ferguson via TKO in the 5th round, he became the number 1 contender for the lightweight strap. Now on a four fight win streak, Gaethje has a resume that includes wins over Michael Johnson, Edson Barboza, Donald Cerrone and Tony Ferguson.
