Sources told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, that the negotiations between Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman versus Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal are done. Provided they both pass the COVID-19 tests, Masvidal will be all set to challenge Usman for the welterweight title. Jorge will be replacing Gilbert “Durhino” Burns after he tested positive for COVID-19 on an incredible 6 days notice.
Provided Masvidal (12-6 UFC, 35-13 MMA) passes the COVID-19 test, he will get his first crack at a Ultimate Fighting Championship’s title. He has not fought since he won via TKO versus Nate Diaz and knocked out Darren Till and Ben Askren in 2019. Welterweight champion Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman (11-0 UFC, 16-1 MMA) is yet to be defeated inside the octagon. Usman also trained with Trevor Whittman while preparing for former opponent, Gilbert Burns. The UFC 251 welterweight championship fight will take place at “Fight Island” Yas Island, Abu Dhabi on July 11th, 2020.
UFC 251 will also have a rematch between Alex Volkanovski and Max Holloway for the featherweight title and Petr Yan versus Jose Aldo for the now vacant banatamweight belt.
