@billgates, @elonmusk, @jeffbezos, @Apple, @bitcoin @ripple @coindesk @coinbase and @binance were among the several hacked Twitter accounts on Wednesday. Hackers used these accounts to post the same message which read; “We have partnered with CryptoForHealth and are giving back 5000 (Bitcoin) BTC to the community,” which would then be followed by a website link. Elon Musk’s Twitter account posted multiple Tweets promising to “double” donations to his bitcoin address.
It is impressive that so many high profile accounts were able to be hacked and used so successfully. over $100,000 has been taken by this scam at the time that this has been written. “We’re looking into this,” a Twitter spokesperson said. Uber, Joe Biden and Obama have also been apart of this highly coordinated Twitter breach.
It is not yet apparent how many accounts have been affected, or how the hack even occurred. Either some pervasively used third party software, or a hacked account with admin privileges are likely sources of the hack. Many crypto influencer Twitter accounts, like King Cobie were victims to the breach as well.
