Scott Coker on Belator Return and Possible Paige VanZant Signing

Bellator 242 in the “Fightsphere”

There is going to be even more MMA for fight fans as Bellator MMA is making its return. The “Fightsphere” will help keep fighters and staff safe during the global pandemic for Belator 242 on July 24th in Connecticut. The card will feature a main event bantamweight bout between Ricky Bandejas (13-3) vs. Sergio Petteis (19-5).

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker spoke to media about promotion’s return. “I am thrilled to announce our return event this month at Mohegan Sun, which has always been an incredible venue partner for us. We put together an exciting card with great matchups, featuring some of our best rising prospects. We look forward to our fans joining us on Paramount Network for what will surely be a memorable night of action inside the Bellator cage.”

Paige VanZant

We had written previously that Bellator may be a natural new hope for the Dancing With The Stars alumni. After coming of her first round submission loss to Amanda Ribas, Paige VanZant is now a free agent. She had explained that how she added value to promotions regardless of her record. President Dana White alluded to wanting out of the VanZant business and expressed that she should “Explore free agency.”

Scott Coker told reporters that, “We definitely want to have a conversation with her.” Her husband, Austin “The Gentleman” Vanderford, is a talented and undefeated middleweight is also fighter for Bellator. There could be additional marketing synergy having the two on the Bellator roster. Coker continued, “Listen, do we want to be in the Paige VanZant business? We definitely want to have a conversation with her. I think she’s done a lot of great things for female MMA. If you look back at the history of Strikeforce, we were the number one organization to do it. We’re going to do our best to have a serious conversation with her in the near future.”
