What an exciting grudge match! The fight that should have happened years ago finally has a date. Former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington is set to fight former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley at the September 19th UFC event. The two fighter’s longstanding public feud will finally see resolution.
Colby “Chaos” Covington (10-2 UFC, 15-2 MMA) was stripped of his interim title when he was unable to fight Tyron Woodley to unify the belts. He then continued to dominate opposition until he lost a competitve fight via TKO to current champion Kamaru Usman via TKO (punches) in the 5th round. “Chaos” has not fought since this title fight defeat at UFC 245 in December. Covington holds notable victories over Mike Pyle, Max Griffin, Dong Hyun Kim, Demian Maia, Rafael dos Anjos and Robbie Lawler.
Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley (9-4 UFC,19-5-1 MMA) held the welterweight championship belt for almost three years until he lost via unanimous decision to current champion Kamaru Usman. “The Chosen One” is coming off a 5 round decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC on ESPN 9. Woodley has wins over Paul Daley, Jordan Mein, Jay Hieron, Josh Koscheck, Robbie Lawler, Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia, and Darren Till.
