Michael “Iron” Chandler is one of the best fighters in the world to have never fought in the UFC. Michael Chandler defeated Benson “Smooth” Henderson in the first round, via KO (punches) at Bellator 243. Chandler (11-5 Bellator, 21-5 MMA) was the first person to finish former UFC and WEC lightweight champion Benson Henderson since Rafael dos Anjos in 2014.
Elated after the win, Chandler went on to state “Man, my ribs hurt, my feet hurts, my leg hurts, (but) I’m excited to get home and see my family. I’m going to go on a little trip. Bellator, my phone is on. We have an exclusive negotiating period like every contract.”
After the win, Chandler is now a free agent, and a potential UFC prospect. He would certainly add another dimension to the notoriously stacked UFC lightweight division. Any top 10 match up in the UFC lightweight division would certainly be exciting, as well as a tough barometer for the former Bellator Champion.
Michael still spoke highly of the Bellator organization after the win, and overall seemed happy and grateful after his spectacular performance. Which ever organization he ends up at, hopefully he gets the increase in salary that he deserves.
