Netflix Cancels 'Patriot Act' With Hasan Minhaj

Patriot Act has come to an end. After 39 episodes and six seasons, the social commentary show featuring comedian Hasan Minhaj will not come back for its seventh season. Hasan Minhaj who’s career first took off after his work on “The Daily Show,” provided a commentary on American culture and politics through a the lens of someone from the South Asian community.

One of his recent and more powerful pieces was about the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery.

“What a run,” Hasan Minhaj wrote on Twitter. “‘Patriot Act’ has come to an end. I got to work with the best writers, producers, researchers, and animators in the game. My 2 babies were born and grew up with the show. TY to @netflix and everyone who watched. Now it’s time to return these screens to Best Buy.”

There have been several shows which prominently featured political comedy that have been cancelled on the streaming platform. ‘The Break With Michelle Wolf,’ “The Joel McHale Show With Joel McHale” and “Chelsea,” with Chelsea Handler are a few examples of other cancelled Netflix shows. These examples were most likely cancelled due to ratings in all honesty. However, ‘Patriot Act’ was widely popular. Netflix has yet to comment on why the Emmy award winning show was canceled.
