The world renouned esports organization TSM signed popular chess Grand Master, Hikaru Nakamura. Nakamura is has been a personal favorite within the chess streaming community for quite some time. His natural affinity towards dynamic chess, entertaining streams, and incredible blitz prowess made an instantaneous fan out of me. This is not only great news for both TSM and Nakamura, it is fantastic for the chess community in general.
Hikaru Nakamura is a five-time United States chess champion. He also received a gold medal in the Chess Olympiad. However, that’s not all, he also is the youngest American to earn the title of Grandmaster (which he earned at 15 years old and 79 days).
Chess has continued grow in popularity on the streaming platform Twitch.tv. There have even been Pogchamp tournaments where internet celebrities could be trained by popular chess streamers before facing off in a fun online chess tournament. However, this signing truly represents something new in the world of chess. Chess is perhaps transitioning into an esport, which could yield incredibly fascinating and positive outcomes for chess fans the world over.
